Mint in Mexico is a collaboration between UF Graphic Design and indigenous communities in Mexico. Our underlying principle is that design plays a critical role in economic, cultural, and social development. It is here we put these ideas into practice. The projects we work on provide opportunities for UF students and faculty to work side-by-side in Mexico with our clients to establish project objectives, conduct field research, and develop responsible, intercultural design solutions. Through these collaborative projects, we learn to think about design in an international, multi-lingual environment, experience the lived realities of indigenous communities, create a culture of bi-national understanding, and promote sustainable, responsible design. Our clients benefit in many of the same ways, and contribute to solutions that will have long-term benefits for their communities. Mint in Mexico is open to all UF students who have an interest in design for development.
