It is estimated that 153,000 yucatecans immigrate. Many to neighboring Quintana Roo to work in tourism and related industries. Most immigrate to the United States from rural towns and are of Maya heritage. In San Francisco, there is even an area called “Maya Town.”

We began to work with Cooperativa Lol-Balché, a 41-member cooperative in Santa Elena, Yucatán in late 2006. In addition to selling wholesale, some members wanted to bring a percentage of their honey direct to market.

Lol-Balché honey

We began to work with Cooperativa Lol-Balché, a 41-member cooperative in Santa Elena, Yucatán in late 2006. In addition to selling wholesale, some members wanted to bring a percentage of their honey direct to market. This decision came at a pivotal stage in their growth and development with the completion of their state of the art honey processing plant.

JULY 2010: Pixan, an organic farm-centric project in Noh-Bec, Quintana Roo. Last year Laila Simonovsky designed Pixan’s identity mark in collaboration with organic farmer/d4d partner Gualberto Cazanova with the support of the University of Florida University Scholars grant.
